The INFA has been promoting the profession of aesthetician at EU level for many years now.

In this regard, the federation has signed a convention with the European Commission and introduced several European training projects.

In 1999, the access to the profession of aestheticians was regulated in several member countries. But it was not the case in the majority of countries.

Aware of this disparity, the International Federation of Aestheticians, under the presidency of Mrs Nadine Salembier, launched a project which aim was achieve an equivalence of professional qualifications in the whole European Union. To reach this goal, the INFA replied to a call for proposals from the European Commission relating to the promotion of initiatives for the mutual recognition of professional qualifications.

After preliminary prospecting work, six member countries joined to form a Guidance Committee: France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Portugal and Belgium.

During the first work phase carried out under the aegis of the European Commission, a common core syllabus for the training of aestheticians was compiled. This syllabus was widely appreciated - and agreed - by all partners.

The next phase of the project supported by Nadine Salembier and her partners was to get in touch with the public authorities of the other member states. The purpose of these contacts was to draw up a comparative study and bring the different curricula into line. The final goal of the project is the free movement of aestheticians in the European Union.
